The article in Time magazine preceded many studies that have been completed since its publication in 2004. Further studies have shown that lycopene does have anti cancer agents that can be beneficial in preventing cancer. As such, foods high in lycopene are often included in many cancer fighting diets.

It’s recommended that you speak to your oncologist before beginning any cancer treatment including a cancer fighting diet, and likewise healthy patients should consult with their physician before starting a diet especially for cancer. However, healthier eating is seldom a bad thing, provided your body receives all the nutrients it needs to function properly.

Although given that doctors have been recommending more fruits and vegetables be added to everyone’s diet for years, and these cancer fighting diets or foods for fighting cancer promote high fruit and vegetable content, it would be natural to assume that these diets are safe and can do no harm.
